Monterrey International Book Fair

Overview

The 34th Monterrey International Book Fair (FIL Monterrey) is underway, featuring a wide range of cultural, academic, and legal presentations.

During the opening ceremonies, Argentine writer Alberto Manguel addressed concerns regarding diminishing text comprehension among readers. Historian Enrique Krauze also spoke on the importance of culture as the “trunk and root” of society. The event includes contributions from the University of Guanajuato and Fomento Cultural Banamex, which is expanding its digital catalog to increase access to Mexican artistic heritage.

In addition to literary discussions, Mexican judicial institutions are using the fair to promote legal literacy. The Judiciary of the State of Nuevo León is hosting lectures and radio programs to connect the judiciary with the community. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) is presenting a catalog of over 500 publications aimed at replacing technical jargon with simple language to improve public access to information regarding human rights, equality, and criminal justice.
