Moon Festival celebrations in Latin America

Moon Festival celebrations, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, were held in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador to promote Chinese traditions and cultural exchange.

In Guayaquil, Ecuador, the festivities featured red lanterns, dragon dances, and street food involving over 70 entrepreneurs. Organizers noted the event aimed to share Chinese culture and stimulate the local economy in the Chinatown district.

In Santiago, Dominican Republic, the inaugural Cibao Moon Festival was held at Parque Central. Organized by the Jade Pro Chinese Community Foundation in coordination with the local Chinese colony and the Santiago mayor’s office, the event featured traditional music, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and dragon and lion dances. The ceremony was attended by Santiago Mayor Ulises Rodríguez and the Chinese Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Chen Luning. The festival served to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and to highlight the historical and economic contributions of the Chinese community in the region.
