Moroccan national security leadership restructuring
Overview
The General Directorate of National Security in Morocco has implemented a series of leadership restructurings across its decentralized services. Approved by Director General Abdellatif Hammouchi, these moves aim to refresh leadership with young and experienced personnel to enhance efficiency and public safety.
In an initial phase, 12 new appointments were announced covering cities including Oujda, Kenitra, Fez, Tetouan, Tangier, Ait Melloul, Inezgane, Ouarzazate, Jerf El Melha, and Mechra Bel Ksiri. These changes included new heads for security zones, police social work services, the Oujda land border crossing, the forensic police unit at Tangier Ville port, and the special police station at Tetouan’s Sania Ramel Airport.
The restructuring expanded with a subsequent reshuffle involving 21 new appointments across 14 cities. This broader movement included the appointment of Inspector General Abdelhamid Afif as the head of the Regional Security Zone in Larache, transitioning from his role in Essaouira. Other key assignments included regional security heads in Essaouira and Larache, a police commissioner in Rich, and various district heads in Fez, Safi, and Midelt, as well as assignments in Casablanca, Rabat, and Guelmim.
