Moroccan video game industry development

Morocco is actively working to structure and expand its national video game ecosystem through international visibility and institutional financial support.

The country made its first official appearance at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, featuring a national pavilion with eleven studios. This delegation, led by the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE) and the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, aimed to connect local developers with international publishers and investors. Many participating studios were graduates of national support programs, such as the Video Game Incubator.

Following this international showcase, the Moroccan government expanded its domestic support by making gaming companies eligible for the Innovation Support Fund. A specific sub-programme for 2026–2028 was established to provide financial assistance for prototyping and pilot industrialization. While these initiatives aim to lower development costs and highlight sectors like mobile gaming, industry observers note that studios still face challenges in transitioning from production services to owning intellectual property and securing international publishing deals.
