Morocco strategic international cooperation expansion

Overview

Morocco is expanding its strategic international partnerships, particularly in the realms of defense, technology, and agriculture.

In military cooperation, Morocco and the United States have begun preparations for the African Lion 2027 joint exercises. This partnership has further evolved through discussions between Moroccan officials and a U.S. Congressional delegation regarding a 2026-2036 military cooperation roadmap, with a focus on defense, cybersecurity, and space technology.

Morocco is also extending its technical influence through cybersecurity collaborations, such as an agreement with Liberia to pursue a Memorandum of Understanding for protecting critical digital infrastructure. Additionally, the nation is pursuing domestic modernization through the launch of a ‘Digital Dirham’ and strengthening agricultural ties with the United States via food safety and climate resilience initiatives.
