Morumbi mansion robbery and investigation

Overview

In early September, an armed gang of approximately ten individuals targeted a mansion in the Morumbi district of São Paulo. The group held a couple and their 13-year-old grandson hostage for about an hour, stealing a Mercedes-Benz, electronics, and luxury watches. The total loss was estimated at R$ 150,000. During the robbery, the criminals also accessed a victim’s bank accounts via mobile phone to perform unauthorized transfers.

By mid-September, police recovered the stolen Mercedes-Benz at a residence in Real Parque being used as a chop shop. One individual, 37-year-old James de Abreu Silva, was arrested at the scene for receiving stolen goods and vehicle tampering. While the vehicle was retrieved, the ten suspects involved in the original hostage situation remain at large.
