MotoGP 2027 rule overhaul

Entities: KTM · Yamaha MotoGP team · Pedro Acosta · Massimo Meregalli · Yamaha

Overview

In July 2026 the Austrian KTM MotoGP team confirmed that Red Bull will continue sponsoring the squad through the 2027 season, dispelling rumours of a shift to Ducati. At the same time KTM opposed a proposed single‑bike limit for Friday practice and qualifying, a measure that failed to gain consensus and will not be taken to the Grand Prix Commission.

Later in the month, the broader 2027 MotoGP regulatory package was detailed: engine capacity will be reduced from 1,000 cc to 850 cc, electronic ride‑height devices will be banned, aerodynamic aids will be curtailed and Pirelli will become the exclusive tyre supplier. Early testing at Brno showed riders adapting to the more physically demanding machines, with manufacturers including KTM, Honda and Ducati evaluating their new prototypes. Veteran rider Marc Marquez welcomed the changes, arguing they will restore rider skill over aerodynamic dependence.
