Mountain rescue activity in Europe

Overview

Mountain rescue services across Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Poland have reported high volumes of interventions during the summer season.

In Slovenia, rescue services logged 448 incidents since the beginning of the year, marking an increase compared to the previous year. High activity was noted in June and July, particularly in the Triglav and Kamniško‑Savinjskih Alps regions, where hikers often face difficulties with terrain or rockfall. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, rescue teams provided 24-hour coverage during the Mladifest pilgrimage in Međugorje, conducting 40 interventions.

Similarly, in Poland’s Bieszczady Mountains, rescuers reported a surge in emergencies involving chest pains, loss of consciousness, and various physical injuries from hiking, cycling, and horse riding. These incidents necessitated several helicopter deployments and medical transports.
