In Carinthia, the Red Cross emphasizes that hikers must be prepared to provide initial first aid because professional rescue services may not arrive immediately. Recommended preparations include monitoring weather, choosing suitable routes, and carrying essential gear like sturdy footwear and first aid kits.

In the Krkonoše Mountains of the Czech Republic, experts highlight the risks of rapidly changing weather, noting that ridge winds can drop perceived temperatures by ten degrees and fog can obscure visibility. Safety recommendations for this region include carrying extra clothing, rain gear, headlamps, and sufficient food and water. Hikers are also advised to carry cash for mountain huts and to ensure trek difficulty matches the ability of the weakest group member.
