Mozambique agricultural development and training initiatives
Overview
Efforts to bolster Mozambique’s agricultural sector have focused on scaling training models and improving investment readiness for producers.
In early October 2026, the National Forest Incubation Programme (INAGRO) proposed expanding its agricultural incubation model to foster youth entrepreneurship. The program, which has operated for four years in Sofala province, utilizes commercial farming operations to teach participants cultivation, cost monitoring, and sales. This initiative aims to address domestic food security following significant spending on food imports in 2025.
Later in the month, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries (MAAP), with European Union support, conducted agribusiness and investment planning training in Macaneta. This program targeted participants from various public, academic, and financial institutions to help small-scale producers develop formal business plans capable of securing financing.
