Mozambique agricultural development initiatives

Mozambique is advancing efforts to modernize its agricultural sector through international cooperation and large-scale domestic investment.

Initially, the Associação dos Jovens Agricultores de Portugal (AJAP) announced plans to establish agricultural training hubs in Mozambique. Supported by the Portuguese ambassador and the Mozambican Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, Roberto Albino, the initiative aims to provide young producers with practical skills, technology, and innovation to bridge the gap between academic theory and field experience.

Following these cooperative efforts, the Mozambican government announced a $2 billion agricultural development plan intended to boost productivity over a four-year period. Minister of Planning and Development Salim Valá stated that the initiative will prioritize small-scale producers and specific value chains, such as irrigation schemes in the Lower Limpopo area of Gaza province. The plan includes research, producer financing, mechanization, and the provision of improved seeds and fertilizers to increase the sector's contribution to the national economy.
