Mozambique technical education and industrial development

Mozambique is prioritizing socioeconomic development through advancements in technical education, engineering innovation, and specialized human capital training.

In Maputo, academic discussions at the Universidade Politécnica have focused on addressing engineering challenges in the energy, infrastructure, and environmental sectors. Experts noted the country’s potential in solar, hydro, and gas energy, while identifying a reliance on external technology as a hurdle to industrial growth. Simultaneously, in Inhambane province, President Daniel Chapo has designated the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Quissico as a center for fish production and processing to leverage maritime resources through vocational training and entrepreneurship.

To support these industrial goals, the government is expanding international scholarship programs. This includes ongoing cooperation with Portugal, which has provided approximately 2,700 scholarships over five decades, and new initiatives by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) to send students to Malaysia and Germany. These programs focus on specialized fields such as Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Petroleum Price Negotiation to qualify the workforce for the mineral and energy sectors.
