The Consorzio di tutela della mozzarella di bufala campana DOP is pursuing strategies to promote and expand the international presence of the product. In October, the consortium participated in the Sial Paris food trade fair to showcase Italian dairy excellence, specifically targeting France, which accounts for approximately 33% of the product's exports.

Following this, Pier Maria Saccani, director of the consortium, identified technological innovation as a critical requirement for reaching more distant markets such as the United States and Japan. While nearby markets remain successful, Saccani noted that logistical constraints and shelf life currently limit global reach. He stated that innovation is a necessary tool to preserve the product's excellence and typicality in a competitive global market.

At the World Buffalo Congress in Sorrento, industry leaders further detailed the sector’s economic impact. Domenico Raimondo, president of the Consorzio di Tutela, noted that the industry generates between 1.2 and 1.3 billion euros in turnover, representing approximately 14% of the GDP in Campania.

Experts emphasized that digital innovation, artificial intelligence, and robotics are essential to address economic and environmental sustainability, regulatory pressures, and bureaucracy. Giuseppe Campanile, president of the International Buffalo Federation, stated that genomics and automation will transform livestock management to improve animal welfare and product quality. Additionally, the consortium is utilizing artificial intelligence to combat product imitations in Europe and overseas to protect brand authenticity. Industry leaders stressed that these technological advancements must complement, rather than replace, traditional production methods and artisanal know-how.
