Mullally's Anglican Africa tour

Overview

In late July 2026 Archbishop of Canterbury Sarah Mullally began a ten‑day pastoral visit to West Africa, arriving first in Ghana. While there she led worship services, met church and community leaders, laid a foundation stone for a pilgrimage hostel, commissioned a new nursing clinic, and held talks with President John Dramani Mahama and the Ashanti king. The itinerary then moved on to Cameroon.

On 31 July Mullally landed in Cameroon for a five‑day leg that included the capital Yaoundé, the port city Douala and the anglophone towns of Buea and Limbe in the conflict‑affected Southwest region. She was welcomed by the Minister of Territorial Administration and the local Anglican bishop, and emphasized prayer, reconciliation and lasting peace for the anglophone zones that have endured a decade‑long separatist struggle. The visit also highlighted internal tensions within the global Anglican Communion over issues such as same‑sex marriage blessings and women’s ordination.
