Municipal investments in child development and recreation
Overview
Municipalities in Turkey and Cyprus are expanding public infrastructure dedicated to child development and recreation.
In Karşıyaka, the local municipality announced the repurposing of an administrative room within the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Sports Complex into a child development center. This facility is intended to provide talent assessment, psychological support, and parental counseling. Officials stated the move is a “public-benefit measure” designed to serve hundreds of local families without impacting the Karşıyaka Sports Club’s access to sports facilities or advertising revenues.
In other regions, new facilities have been inaugurated to enhance community recreation. In Topçuköy, İskele Municipality opened a 7,800-square-meter Child Park and Recreation Area featuring sports courts, playgrounds, and walking paths. Meanwhile, in Alaçatı, Çeşme Municipality opened the Hayriye and Vehbi Özen Child Activity Center and renovated the Mavi Kelebek Anı Park, which utilizes the blue butterfly as a symbol to honor the cultural memory of the Bosnian community.
