In Abbotsford, the development of a new sports and recreation park faced an initial setback when the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) rejected a proposal to use protected land near the University of the Fraser Valley. The ALC denied the request to avoid creating a ‘slippery slope’ for other properties along the commission border.

Following this rejection, Abbotsford officials revised their plans and are now investigating the feasibility of constructing the facility, which may include soccer fields and baseball diamonds, on a 39-acre parcel at 1010 Lefeuvre Road. City staff have been directed to continue site and design work through the fall.
