Murcia international pediatric leukemia treatment program

Overview

The Region of Murcia has renewed its collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for the Fight against Leukemia (FELL) to provide specialized medical care to children and adolescents from countries with limited healthcare access. Through the Murcian Health Service (SMS), the program provides treatment for leukemia and other serious hematological diseases within the region’s public hospital network.

Since the program began in 1994, more than 150 minors from 15 different countries—including the Dominican Republic, Senegal, Peru, Nicaragua, and Ecuador—have received assistance. The renewed agreement aims to maintain an average of five pediatric patients per year. Murcia remains the only Spanish autonomous community operating a program of this nature, which focuses on reducing healthcare inequality for patients from economically disadvantaged areas.
