Murder of Malaysian customs officer in Nilai

Overview

Norhazwani Ibrahim, a 35-year-old officer with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (also identified as an officer with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, AKPS), was found dead at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) staff quarters in Nilai on October 15.

Reports indicate the victim was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband. The suspect, a man in his 30s, surrendered to police following the attack. The victim’s brother, Amran Ibrahim, stated that the couple had been married for seven years and was in the process of divorcing. The suspect had recently been released from prison following a drug-related conviction and was reportedly unemployed.

Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad confirmed that authorities were investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

On October 17, Norhazwani Ibrahim was laid to rest at the Tanjong Islamic Cemetery in Pengkalan Kubor. The funeral was attended by over 100 family members and acquaintances. Her brother, Mohd Hazwan, expressed shock, noting he had spoken with her normally just hours before the tragedy. The victim leaves behind two young daughters, aged 5 and 6.

By October 25, authorities revealed that the 37-year-old suspect, identified as Mohd Khairudin Safi’ai, was scheduled to face murder charges in the Seremban Magistrate's Court. Police findings indicated the victim died from neck compression, in addition to stab wounds found on her abdomen and cheek. The suspect reportedly has a criminal record involving 16 prior offenses, including narcotics, housebreaking, and theft. The motive is believed to be a domestic dispute stemming from the victim's request for a divorce. As the murder charge falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court, no plea was recorded during the magistrate proceedings. The court has scheduled a mention for December 22.
