Overview
The Museo Tamayo de Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico City inaugurated an exhibition titled ‘Tamayo, Nieto, Toledo. Los años en París’. The showcase explores the European period of three prominent Oaxacan artists—Rufino Tamayo, Rodolfo Nieto, and Francisco Toledo—during the second half of the 20th century.
Featuring over 100 works including paintings, drawings, and collages from 45 private and institutional collections, the exhibition examines how the artists integrated European modernism with pre-Hispanic and folk art influences. The collection includes several pieces appearing in Mexico for the first time, such as Tamayo’s ‘La mujer temblorosa’, Nieto’s ‘Zoología mental’ series, and works by Toledo titled ‘La amazona’ and ‘Compañero de viaje’.
Curated by Juan Carlos Pereda, the project took three years to develop. The exhibition is scheduled to remain open to the public in Chapultepec Forest until February 15, 2027. The event was attended by Oaxaca Governor Salomón Jara Cruz.
