MUVEC art exhibition on the human body

Overview

The MUVEC museum in Mestre has inaugurated an exhibition titled ‘Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka and the body in contemporary art’, which is scheduled to run until February 14, 2027.

The exhibition explores the human body as a central theme to reflect personal, social, and cultural anxieties, as well as identity and desire. It traces artistic evolution from the Vienna Secession movement—featuring works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka—through the ‘return to order’ in the 1920s and 30s, Nouveau Réalisme, and Body Art, up to contemporary artists.

The showcase includes nearly 50 works, such as paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photographs. Notable pieces include Klimt’s ‘Judith II’ (or ‘Giuditta II’), which marks a shift toward eroticized representations of the female form. Works are provided by various international institutions, including the Leopold Museum in Vienna and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.
