Nahdlatul Ulama corruption allegations

Allegations of corruption and illicit money transfers involving Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) branches have prompted responses from various levels of the organization.

Following a clarification from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stating that no cash was handed over by PCNU Sekadau, the Ikatan Keluarga Alumni Pesantren Tebuireng (IKAPETE) East Java refuted claims of involvement in money politics. IKAPETE Chairman Roisuddin Bakri characterized the situation as “negative framing” intended to damage the organization’s reputation ahead of the 35th NU Muktamar.

In response to the broader claims, PBNU Vice Chairman Saifullah Yusuf stated that the central organization has received no official reports regarding regional branches returning corruption proceeds to the KPK. He emphasized that allegations regarding fund flows to Muktamar participants require concrete evidence and expressed support for KPK investigations. Additionally, the Chairman of PCNU Kudus denied allegations of receiving funds to influence votes, asserting that candidate selection was conducted through internal deliberation.
