Naju robbery-homicide investigation
Overview
Police in Naju, South Jeolla Province, are investigating the robbery-homicide of a couple in their 60s. The victims were found in their home, bound with blue tape and clothing; preliminary findings indicated the husband died from stab wounds and the wife from asphyxiation.
A 53-year-old acquaintance, identified by the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency as Park Yong-su, was arrested after CCTV footage tracked him fleeing the scene with the victims’ truck. Investigations revealed that Park withdrew approximately 6 million won from the victims’ accounts, which he reportedly spent at an adult entertainment venue.
While Park claimed the stabbing was an “accidental outburst,” authorities are treating the case as a premeditated crime, noting evidence that he may have scouted the residence beforehand. Due to the cruelty of the crime and the need to prevent recidivism, police released Park’s identity and mugshot. He is scheduled to be transferred to the Gwangju District Prosecutors’ Office.
