Nanning China-ASEAN economic and technological cooperation
Overview
Nanning has intensified its role as a strategic gateway for cooperation between China and ASEAN, focusing on digital intelligence and regional connectivity. In late September 2026, the city hosted events such as the Nanning-Hanoi Economic Corridor and the Nanning Friendship Cities Belt and Road 2026 Conference. These initiatives emphasized the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into urban governance and industrial development, alongside the signing of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 Upgrade Protocol.
Innovation efforts were further highlighted by the 9th China·Nanning Overseas Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, where AI-related entries accounted for over 33.9 percent of submissions. By late October, following the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), the city launched a new AI marketplace featuring technologies such as large AI models, intelligent robots, and AI chips. This marketplace facilitated transactions exceeding 28 million yuan.
Logistical connectivity has also progressed with the opening of the Pinglu Canal to navigation. Complementing these technological and infrastructural developments, the Nanning Comprehensive Bonded Zone continues to utilize cross-border e-commerce networks to distribute Southeast Asian products throughout China via the established ‘Nanning Channel’ for trade and investment.
