Nantes food security and accessibility initiatives

Overview

In Nantes, a food security initiative launched in the summer of 2025 is progressing through an experimental phase. Introduced by Mayor Johanna Rolland, the program utilizes a local currency called the Moneko to help residents purchase vegetable baskets from local grocery stores.

As of October 2026, 71 households are participating in the program, approaching an initial target of 80. Following recent elections, political proposals have been made to expand this food social security model to triple the number of beneficiaries.
