Natural disaster response in Colombia and Peru

Overview

Following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Colombia, government agencies have implemented emergency measures to restore public services. In the Eje Cafetero, Chocó, and Valle del Cauca regions, the Registraduría Nacional del Estado Civil deployed mobile units and alternative sites, such as hospitals and transport terminals, to provide free identification documents and civil registries to those affected.

By late August, these relief efforts expanded into coordinated registration campaigns. In Colombia, the Registraduría established priority response sessions through mid-September to assist hundreds of families in replacing lost documents in Cali. Similarly, in Peru, Reniec launched an initiative to provide free delivery of National Identity Documents (DNI) to families in five districts impacted by heavy rains.
