Negeri Sembilan monarchy legitimacy dispute

The Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) has repeatedly affirmed that Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir remains the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

In September, the DKU declared an April 19 proclamation unconstitutional, noting that the individuals who signed it did not hold the position of Undang according to custom at the time. The council stated that under the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution 1959, a full investigation and notice must be provided before a ruler can be asked to step down, neither of which occurred. The DKU further characterized certain actions by six individuals as “treasonous” and directed civil servants to ignore documents related to the matter.

By October, the DKU reaffirmed that there is no vacancy in the position, noting that Tuanku Muhriz was proclaimed the 11th Yang Dipertuan Besar in 2008. The council also addressed allegations of interference regarding the affairs of Luak Sungei Ujong, maintaining that the ruler did not intervene in the dismissal of the Undang of Luak Sungei Ujong but instead accepted decisions made by local representatives according to custom.
