Nepal flooding and landslide disaster

Severe flooding and landslides in Nepal have caused widespread destruction, particularly affecting Trishuli Bazar in the Nuwakot district. The deluge destroyed numerous businesses and homes, with local merchants reporting significant financial losses. The disaster has resulted in human casualties and missing persons, including laborers from Bihar, India, who were caught in flash floods.

As the situation progressed, the scale of the impact expanded to include the destruction of dozens of bridges and multiple villages. Rescue operations have continued amid reports of people trapped under debris. The crisis has also affected Indian nationals, with more than 300 reported missing, prompting India to dispatch relief materials to assist with the emergency.

Recent reports from the Trishuli region highlight the suddenness of the flash floods, which survivors described as arriving with the “sudden force of an explosion.” The disaster has caused significant displacement; in the Trishuli region, more than 90 people, nearly half of whom are children, are currently residing in improvised shelters.

Individual accounts underscore the personal toll, such as 23-year-old survivor Ajay Tamang, who lost 11 of his 17 relatives in the disaster. While humanitarian organizations have begun providing essential supplies, clothing, and toys to assist children, many families remain in a vulnerable state, still recovering from the long-term impacts of the 2015 earthquake.
