Overview
The Netherlands is advancing public engagement and information transparency regarding its energy transition. In late August 2026, plans were announced for the Open Energiedag, an event scheduled for September 19 to showcase sustainable energy projects such as wind turbines, solar parks, and heat installations across approximately forty locations.
By September 19, 2026, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy launched energietransitie.nl, a centralized digital hub intended to help residents and businesses track the shift from fossil fuels to sources like wind, solar, nuclear, and hydrogen. Simultaneously, the sixth edition of the Open Energiedag took place, drawing over 5,500 visitors to roughly 35 sites, including offshore wind energy in Rotterdam and biogas installations in Luttelgeest. Olof van der Gaag, chairman of the Dutch Association for Sustainable Energy (NVDE), stated that these initiatives assist citizens in understanding how domestic production can reduce reliance on foreign fossil fuels.
