New York Giants roster changes regarding Jihad Ward

Overview

In late September 2026, the New York Giants signed veteran defensive lineman Jihad Ward from the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad to bolster their pass rush following a season-ending knee injury to All-Pro linebacker Brian Burns. To accommodate Ward, the team released defensive tackle Josh Tupou.

Three weeks later, the Giants released Ward after a two-game stint in which he recorded one tackle across 41 defensive snaps. His signing had been intended to address depth issues caused by injuries to Brian Burns and Chauncey Golston, as well as the team's previous trade of Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals.
