Nextech platform launch for Colombian fashion industry

Overview

Inexmoda announced the launch of Nextech by Colombiatex, a specialized platform designed to integrate technology into the fashion system to improve global competitiveness. The initiative aims to connect fashion companies with technology providers to optimize production and business tools.

The inaugural fair, held in Medellín from September 22 to 24, featured over 100 exhibitors focusing on artificial intelligence, automation, software, data analytics, logistics, and e-commerce. This push for modernization follows a 6.7% decrease in Colombian fashion exports between January and May. Inexmoda Executive President Sebastián Díez noted the need to address “operational chaos” regarding process tracking and information systematization.

During the event, Díez emphasized that technology must be “specialized by vertical” to address the unique financial cycles, data needs, and value chains of the fashion sector. Rather than adopting general software, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between developers and the fashion ecosystem, covering stages from raw materials and design to production, inventory, and consumer relations.

The fair highlighted five key drivers for the industry: artificial intelligence, data, automation, traceability, and response speed. Participants explored solutions such as 3D design, AI-assisted product development, and logistics tools. Díez noted that the industry can no longer view technology as a distant concept, stating the fair was born from the specific challenges of the fashion system rather than technology for its own sake.

The event concluded at Plaza Mayor, drawing over 5,000 attendees and featuring 118 brands from 25 countries. Discussions expanded to include blockchain for traceability and omnichannel retail as essential tools for meeting the demands of digitalized consumers and ensuring global competitiveness.
