NHRA U.S. Nationals concludes in Indianapolis

Overview

The 72nd annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals, known as ‘The Big Go’, has concluded at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Serving as a centerpiece for the NHRA’s 75th anniversary, the event awarded winners special diamond Wally trophies to commemorate the milestone.

Jack Beckman secured two victories during the six-day competition. He won the PlayNHRA Funny Car All-Star Callout and defeated Matt Hagan in the event final. Competing in a special John Force tribute design on his Peak Chevy Funny Car, Beckman described the experience as ‘the greatest weekend of his career’.

The event featured a massive nitro field, including 22 Top Fuel dragsters and 23 Funny Car entries. Overall, the competition included over 850 race cars across various categories, such as nitro-burning Altereds and heads-up Class Eliminations. Despite record-high temperatures, the event drew spectators and appearances by racing icons including Don Garlits and Lynda Vaughn.
