Overview

The Serbian Ministry of Culture has declined to allocate funds for the 32nd Nišville Jazz Festival, marking the second consecutive year the event has received no support from the ministry’s competition. The ministry stated it has confidence in the organizers’ ability to secure resources through their own means and sponsors.

Festival director Ivan Blagojević criticized the decision, noting that the ministry’s total allocation of approximately 55.95 million dinars was distributed among 79 projects, including 41 festivals. He highlighted that the ministry’s funding for the festival is significantly lower than previous years when it received between 4 and 5 million dinars under former leadership.

Despite the lack of ministry support, the festival proceeded from 8–16 August 2024 at the Niš Fortress, supported by a record 60 million dinars from the city of Niš and 4 million dinars from the Ministry of Tourism.

The event featured a diverse lineup, including the Amy Winehouse Band, Boney M, Kyoto Jazz Massive, and the Afro Gitano trio. The festival concluded with a program dedicated to the local Niš rock and roll scene, featuring four generations of regional bands such as Galija and Daltoni.
