Nicaraguan educational program expansions

Overview

The Nicaraguan Ministry of Education (MINED) has introduced new initiatives to enhance educational quality and accessibility. On September 28, 2026, MINED, in partnership with UNAN-Managua and UNICEF, launched a two-year Master’s program in Early Childhood Education and Development. This program is intended for approximately 30 pedagogical advisors and includes 13 modules covering child development, regulatory frameworks, and educational management.

Following this, on September 30, 2026, the Ministry announced the implementation of teleclasses via Canal 6, Canal 15, and digital platforms. These teleclasses are designed to reinforce weekly content across multiple levels, including early childhood, primary, secondary, and adult education. The curriculum spans subjects such as mathematics, language, English, and natural sciences, while also incorporating socio-emotional skills through educational community councils.

On October 7, 2026, the Ministry held its third National Pedagogical Meeting, where 38 primary school English teachers were selected from more than 1,900 educators to present successful teaching methods and original stories. This initiative aims to strengthen communicative skills and English proficiency in children through the sharing of creative classroom strategies.

Additionally, authorities and educational specialists are currently formulating the National Education Strategy 2027-2030. This participatory process involves sectors such as art, culture, and innovation to develop an inclusive model. The strategy focuses on improving teacher professional development, upgrading school infrastructure and equipment, and promoting scientific and technical research capabilities.
