Nicaraguan military agricultural and disaster security

Overview

The Nicaraguan Army has initiated several security and preparedness programs. On October 24, 2026, the military launched the Protection and Security Plan for the 2026-2027 coffee harvest cycle, deploying over 3,000 troops to key departments including Matagalpa, Jinotega, and Estelí. This deployment aims to protect the livelihoods of approximately 500,000 people and prevent crimes such as cattle theft and machinery robbery.

By late October, the military expanded its focus to include disaster response and regional coordination. Training sessions were conducted in Managua for military medical personnel regarding risk management and damage assessment. Additionally, the Army provided fire prevention and earthquake safety training in the Managua department and developed action plans for volcanic eruption responses in León and Telica. In the Nueva Segovia region, military commands held meetings with local authorities and producers to strengthen both rural security and the coffee harvest protection plan.
