Nigeria 2027 presidential election preparations

Political parties in Nigeria are organizing for the 2027 general election. At the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) national convention in Bauchi, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced former Department of State Services Director-General Lawal Musa Daura as his running mate, citing Daura’s security background as a necessity for addressing national challenges.

During the convention, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed was inaugurated as the APM national leader and endorsed the Makinde-Daura ticket as a strategic move for security and development. Makinde emphasized that the 2027 election should focus on measurable outcomes like job availability and purchasing power, rather than political slogans.

Concurrently, the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) named US-based entrepreneur Adebisi Moses Olusoji as its presidential candidate. This selection occurred via a substitution primary in Osun State, monitored by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, following the withdrawal of the party’s previous candidate, Samuel Memeh.

Adebisi, a 35-year-old Harvard University PhD candidate, has declared his intention to run for office with the goal of becoming the country’s youngest president. In an interview on Arise Television, he expressed a desire to defeat incumbent President Bola Tinubu, arguing that current leadership has failed to address citizen welfare. Adebisi stated he has developed a political and economic blueprint based on studies of China’s economic reforms and the United States’ Liberty Agenda of 1774.
