Recent tensions have also emerged regarding economic relief, with the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) appealing for the release of subsidy-removal palliative arrears.

Recent digital and verification efforts have begun to yield significant results. In Ondo State, the AI-enabled ‘Ondo Pay’ platform has processed approximately ₦9.7 billion in pensions and gratuities for 2,802 beneficiaries, resolving obligations dating back to 2015. Nationally, the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) reported substantial savings by removing 20,089 unverified pensioners from its payroll, reducing monthly expenditures by approximately ₦750 million. PTAD is continuing mop-up verification exercises to maintain database integrity.
