Nigeria institutional transparency and accountability
Overview
In late 2026, assessments of Nigerian federal and state institutions highlighted varying levels of transparency and accountability. The 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index (TII), released by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI), identified the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) as the most transparent federal institution with a score of 84.14 per cent, while Kaduna State led among state governments. The report noted a significant performance gap, as many institutions scored below 20 per cent.
Subsequent evaluations by a coalition of civil society organizations recognized the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) for their performance. The ICPC was noted for its efforts in protecting public resources, while the BPP was recognized for procurement reforms that reportedly saved the Federal Government approximately ₦1.1 trillion in 2025.
