Nigeria police crackdown on organized crime

Nigeria’s police forces have carried out a series of intelligence‑led operations across several states, targeting a range of organized‑crime networks. In Oyo and Ogun states, officers recovered a stolen tricycle and seized trailer components, arresting individuals suspected of running vehicle‑theft and trailer‑dismantling syndicates. Later the same day, police in Ekiti and Akwa Ibom states responded to an armed robbery, confiscating more than ₦3.6 million in stolen electronics and jewellery, and uncovered a locally fabricated barrel gun. In Akwa Ibom, a separate raid dismantled an illegal firearms‑manufacturing network, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the seizure of a double‑barrel cartridge gun and related production tools. Collectively, these actions illustrate a coordinated effort by Nigerian authorities to disrupt multiple criminal enterprises involving vehicle theft, armed robbery, and illicit weapon production.
