Nigeria terrorism prosecutions

In late July 2026, former security official Samaila Ibrahim Kaigama was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on four terrorism‑related counts, accused of concealing information about attacks and of raising and handling funds for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram. Kaigama pleaded not guilty and was remanded in protective custody pending a trial set for September.

A week later, in early August 2026, retired Department of State Services officer Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam was also arraigned in the same court on four counts under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act for alleged involvement with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). He too pleaded not guilty and was ordered to remain detained at Kuje Correctional Centre while his trial is scheduled for October. Both cases illustrate Nigeria’s ongoing legal actions against individuals accused of supporting insurgent or separatist groups.
