Nigeria's Niger Delta oil security initiative

In July 2026 the Nigerian government confirmed that Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd (TSSNL), led by High Chief Dr Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), had been appointed to protect oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta. The firm’s surveillance and pipeline‑security operations were credited with cutting oil‑theft incidents and fatalities, helping to safeguard the sector that generates over 75 % of Nigeria’s foreign‑exchange earnings and supporting the administration’s goal of a $1 trillion GDP by 2030.

Later in the month the government reiterated the hire, linking it directly to the completion of the 2025 upstream oil licensing round, which aims to add roughly 500 million barrels of reserves and increase crude output by about 300,000 bpd. Officials stressed that the success of the new licences would depend on continued protection of pipelines and other assets, and TSSNL’s role was presented as essential to converting licences into actual production while maintaining peace in the region.
