Nile cruise fleet expansion 2026

In August 2026 two major cruise operators announced new vessels for the Nile River, underscoring rapid growth in Egypt’s luxury river tourism.

AmaWaterways introduced AmaNubia, a 76‑guest ship with 38 staterooms, including 15 suites. The vessel will begin sailing in November 2026, offering itineraries that visit the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, Luxor, Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, and optional extensions to Abu Simbel, Jordan and Dubai. Guests will stay at high‑end hotels such as the Four Seasons Cairo and The St. Regis Cairo, with Egyptologists on board to provide historical context.

At the same time, Viking took delivery of its newest Nile ship, Viking Ptah, an 82‑guest vessel with 41 staterooms that runs a 12‑day "Pharaohs & Pyramids" itinerary. Viking announced plans to add 20 more river ships by 2028 and to expand its ocean and expedition fleet by 2031, signalling a broader commitment to experiential travel.

Both announcements highlight strong demand for immersive, high‑end river cruises on the Nile and suggest continued investment in Egypt’s tourism infrastructure.
