North Bolaang Mongondow regent corruption investigation

Overview

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named Sirajudin Lasena (SJL), the Regent of North Bolaang Mongondow, as a suspect in an extortion and bribery investigation. Following a sting operation involving 14 individuals across Jakarta, North Sulawesi, and Gorontalo, law enforcement seized hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash.

Investigators allege that SJL imposed a 10 percent fee on procurement projects, specifically targeting road construction. The scheme reportedly involved the Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Department to manage project winners. Between 2023 and 2026, during his tenure as both Acting Regent and elected Regent, SJL is accused of receiving illicit funds totaling approximately 11.14 to 11.53 billion IDR.

SJL has been detained at the KPK detention center for an initial 20-day period. He faces charges under the Anti-Corruption Law, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
