North Macedonia Debar social housing allocation

On 1 August 2026 a ceremony in Debar (Dibër) municipality handed over 47 newly built social‑housing apartments to families that met eligibility criteria. The units, ranging from 34 to 54 m², were allocated to socially vulnerable groups, including children without parental care, recipients of guaranteed minimum assistance, people with disabilities and those affected by natural disasters. The event was attended by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski (also reported as Christian Micc...), Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski, the director of the state‑owned housing company Marjan Stefanovski and mayor Fisnik Mela. Financing was described as coming from a €2 million Hungarian credit in one report and from a loan provided by the European Bank for Development in another, reflecting differing accounts of the funding source. Opposition party Democratic Union for Integration criticised the hand‑over as a political photo‑op, claiming the project originated under the previous government. Officials indicated the social‑housing programme will continue in other municipalities, with upcoming allocations announced for Probištip and Sveti Nikole and further construction planned across several towns.
