North Macedonia judicial and police reform cooperation
Overview
North Macedonia is pursuing a series of structural and digital reforms within its security and judicial sectors, supported by expertise and funding from the United States.
In the security sector, the Bureau for Public Security has announced initiatives to enhance police capabilities against digital and hybrid threats. Supported by the U.S. Embassy, the Department of Justice, and ICITAP, these reforms focus on modernizing computer crime investigations, securing digital evidence, and improving operational readiness through new intervention teams and digitalization.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Justice is seeking American expertise to reform criminal legislation and strengthen the rule of law. Discussions between Justice Minister Jeton Shasivari and U.S. Embassy officials highlighted priorities such as combating corruption and organized crime, digitalizing the judicial system, and implementing the National Drug Strategy project funded by the U.S. Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
