North Macedonia security training

Entities: Macedonian Army · Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia · Vlatko Mitkovski · Panče Toskowski · United States Military Academy (West Point)

Overview

In early July 2026 North Macedonia opened a new “7 May” school at the Police Academy to train 200 cadets. Later that month the General Mihailo Apostolski Military Academy in the Goce Delchev barracks held a graduation ceremony for the 26th class, promoting 36 cadets to lieutenant and senior lieutenant. The event featured a West Point graduate, highlighted regional cooperation with Bosnia‑Herzegovina and Montenegro, and reaffirmed the academy’s role as a regional centre for military education.

At the end of July the Police Academy in Idrizovo graduated 496 officers from the 2025‑2026 cohort, the first class to complete a new three‑module basic‑training programme that separates general‑duty/traffic, border and special‑operations tracks. The cohort comprised 364 officers for general and traffic duties, 78 for border police and 54 for special police units. Minister of Internal Affairs Panče Toshkovski linked the recruitment to ongoing modernization—new stations, equipment, vehicles, digital services and security systems—and noted the country’s lowest crime level in two decades. Assistant Minister Vlatko Mitkovski added that the academy now holds international accreditation, underscoring the emphasis on professionalism and lifelong service.
