Norwegian police traffic enforcement
Entities: Skien Police · Telemarksporten · Tom Richard Skuggedal · E18 highway
Overview
In late July 2026 Norwegian police continued a series of traffic‑related operations across the country. On 22 July officers conducted a speed check on county road 32 at Sandbrekkene, issuing fines to 16 drivers, seizing licences after a motorcyclist was recorded at 128 km/h in a 70 km/h zone and a car driver was suspected of DUI. The same day police also fined about 20 motorists for stopping on the hard shoulder of the E16 motorway near Gardermoen and highlighted new markings and a nearby rest‑area to curb illegal roadside parking.
Five days later, on 27 July, police in Skien carried out two further speed‑check operations, fining fifteen drivers for exceeding limits of 70 km/h and 50 km/h. Simultaneously, the nearby E18 highway experienced two brief closures near the Telemarksporten interchange – one caused by a stalled car towing a caravan and the other by a person lying on the road, both cleared after 10‑15 minutes. Additional incidents included an alleged axe threat in Kragerø (no injuries) and a water rescue at Skåtøy, also resolved without serious harm. Together, the snapshots show a continued focus on speeding enforcement, deterrence of illegal road use, and rapid response to emergent traffic disruptions.
