Nuance Audio launch of hearing aid smart glasses

EssilorLuxottica subsidiary Nuance Audio has launched the Nuance Audio Plus, a pair of FDA-cleared smart glasses designed to function as over-the-counter hearing aids for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss.

The device integrates hearing aid technology, including directional microphones and beamforming technology, directly into the eyewear frames to allow for conversation amplification while keeping ears unobstructed. The hardware features physical buttons for power and volume control, and the glasses offer approximately 10 hours of battery life.

Users can manage settings through a smartphone app, which provides various sound gain profiles and noise reduction levels. The product is available in the United States starting at $829, offered in three frame styles and five colors. The company aims to bridge the gap between medical devices and lifestyle wearables to reduce the stigma associated with traditional hearing aids.

Following the initial launch, the product has expanded its availability. In Italy, the device became available in mid-September through retailers such as Salmoiraghi & Viganò and Grand Vision, with recommended prices starting at 899 euros depending on lens configuration. The updated model features improved speech clarity and allows users to manage compatible iPhone calls directly through the frames.
