Nuclea Energy acquisition of Moltex Energy technology

Nuclea Energy Inc. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the advanced nuclear technology portfolio of Moltex Energy. The acquisition, which followed a competitive bidding process, includes 80 patents across nine families.

The acquired assets feature the Stable Salt Reactor – Wasteburner (SSR-W), FLEX reactor technologies, and the Waste to Stable Salt (WATSS) used nuclear fuel recycling process. The WATSS technology utilizes pyrochemical processing to recover transuranic elements to create new fuel, a method designed to avoid the separation of pure plutonium by keeping it mixed with other radioactive elements. This process aims to repurpose spent nuclear fuel to produce up to 500 MW of electricity, potentially reducing long-term waste inventories.

Nuclea Energy intends to maintain Moltex Energy Canada as a dedicated business for research, engineering, and regulatory development. The project has received over 96 million Canadian dollars in combined private and public investment from Canada and the United States.
