NURTW leadership violence in Osun State

Overview

Violence erupted at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, Osun State, following a shooting incident linked to internal leadership disputes within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Police recovered two corpses from the terminal, including Olalekan Oyeyemi, an Accord Party chieftain known as Emir Ajagungbade, who was reportedly killed during a clash involving a group led by a NURTW leader.

In response to the lawlessness, Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered the closure of the motor park for security sweeps. As investigations progressed, police arrested Waliyi Adejare, also known as Jay Jay, a primary suspect and associate of a factional NURTW chairman.

Following the violence, the Governor announced the proscription of the NURTW in Osun State and ordered all warring factions to vacate motor parks. To restore order, the state government plans to reintroduce a Park Management System through an upcoming Executive Order.
