O Carballiño Holy Year Jubilee

Overview

The Diocese of Ourense received a Holy Year Jubilee from Pope Leo XIV to mark the 75th anniversary of the Veracruz Temple in O Carballiño and the 125th anniversary of the Vera Cruz relic in the town.

Preparations for the event included decorating the temple, installing jubilee flags, and preparing a Holy Door presided over by an image of the crucified Christ. The celebration also involved the blessing of a new reliquary to hold the historical relic and two additional fragments of the Cross of Christ donated from Bochum, Germany.

On October 31, the Jubilee Year officially commenced with the opening of the Holy Door. The ceremony was led by Bishop Leonardo Lemos Montanet and attended by seven bishops and more than 1,100 faithful. The festivities included a procession and a tribute to the victims of the Urda railway accident.
